Non-Violence
Non-Violence
Andrew Childs
World History
8th block
I believe non-violence works because it is the best way to face a problem. This can show that not raising a finger can ultimately give you what you desire for. In document D Ghandi writes that “I cannot intentionally hurt anything that lives, much less human beings, even though they may do the greatest wrong to me.” Non-violence is often used against unjust laws. In document I, for example Nelson Mandela says, “No matter what the authorities did, the volunteers could not retaliate, otherwise they would undermine the value of the entire enterprise.” Non-violence can also work against racism, as Martin Luther King did. He preached non-violence to all African Americans that faced racism. In document H for example Dr. King says, “We proved to them that we needed no weapons-not so much as a toothpick.” Using non-violence by stop working or helping for whoever is oppressing you. The boycott of buses which helped big to ending segregation in the south was a great way of using non-violence. In document K Dr. King says, “People had rushed down to get arrested for their part in the Montgomery bus boycotts.” This shows non-violence was the best way to go. The biggest problem that occurred that Nelson Mandela disliked the most was the sanctions put on his people. In document C he says, “We could not tell out supporters to relax sanctions until he had completely dismantled apartheid and a transitional government was in place.” In the movie the ways Ghandi taught non-violence was great. They way Ghandi told them to stop their work for him and take their blows but not to even block the attack. The massacre was also a good example because some of the men could have brought guns and fought back but they lined up and didn’t fight back at all. This are the reasons I believe non-violence is the best way to face a problem.

Middle East conflict questions
1, How did your country get involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East?
The U.S got invovled in the middle east because of the fighting and terrorism.
2. What is the history of your country's involvement in that conflict, from when it entered until now? (This will likely be a long answer...)
The U.S started interfiering in the middle east since 1801 when Thomas Jefferson sent help to aid military against pirates. March 1963 to station a squadron of U.S. jet fighters in Dhahran. There they played a high‐altitude game of “cat and mouse” with Egyptians MiGs along the Saudi‐Yemeni frontier until Lyndon B. Johnson terminated “Operation Hard Surface” in early 1964.
3.Who are your enemies in the Middle East? Why?
Our enemies in the Middle East are most Islamic cultures, because we gave Israel there land.
4.Who are your friends in the Middle East? Why?
Israel, becasue we gave them land and supported them.
5.What does your country want out of the Arab-Israeli conflict?
The U.S mostly just wants for the fighting to end because innocent people are dying everyday. We just want there to be peace between all countries in teh Middle East.
6.What is it prepared to give up to get what it wants?
The U.S is prepared to interveen and try to stall the fighting and send our troops.
7.What will it not give up to get what it wants?
The U.S will not willing to give up Israel.

reflection
1. I learned about how fallout shelters were made in the 1960's and which things were in them.
2. How and why were bomb shelters made during the cold war?
3.Bomb shelters were made for the protection from nuclear fallout and bombs that could hit citizins.
4. It showed how one looked and which things were in them, but not exactly why in our model.
5. I think personally we should ahve communicated better and finished it earlier. The model we made was pretty good i thought but it could have been better but it was a good idea melanie thought of so i though we did a descent job.
6. Communicating better so we could get a great model done and worked maybe a little bit harder.
7. I would change our idea maybe because i think we made harder on ourself's with our choice of topic.
8. I wouldn't really change all that much about the project i thounght it was a pretty good project and it was fun.
9. I think we deserve a B on the project personally we didnt have the detail to get an A in my opinion, we needed more time together to make it look better.
